It's a glorious thing, to be a pirate king
He sat in the middle of the stage, papers from his latest class spread around him for grading as a small boombox played Les Mis. He sang along with Valjean as he finished up the last few papers before the members of the Drama Club got there. Not that he didn't know already who the first one to show up would be.

Mischa grinned as she shifted her bookbag over her shoulder and headed into the theatre. "Nice projection." She walked onto the stage. "I'm not really sold on the delivery though."

He looked up from the papers and gave her a wide grin. "I was much better as Enjorlas," he assured her. "And my Marius was almost just as good." He began to gather the papers up. "I was thinking about doing Les Mis as the Spring Musical. We could have some of the smaller roles double cast if we can find people with the vocals to pull it off. What do you think?"

Mischa mulled it over in her head. "I think that would work. Who are you planning on casting as Jean Valjean?"

"Depends on who we can get to audition," he said as he stood. He walked over to put the papers in one of the desks backstage. "What about Evan? The one the played Danny when we did Grease?" He thought about it for a moment more. "Or maybe he's more of a Javert..."

"Maybe." Mischa said as she sat down on the edge of the stage. "Who are you going to cast as Cosette?"

"Fishing for a role," he asked with a laugh.

Mischa grinned mischievously and shrugged innocently. "Maybe. Why? Are you looking to give a lead role?"

"If you want a lead, go for Fontine," he said with a wave of his hand. "Or Eponine, if you're fine with something smaller. They've got so much more depth and you would be able to stretch your talent so much further." He'd always thought that Cosette wasn't much more than a sheltered brat. "That is if we do Les Mis. There's always A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum or Singing In The Rain."

"I trust your judgement." Mischa said with a grin as she lightly nudged him. "Cast me as whoever you think I would be good as. Are you going to The Box tonight?"

"I haven't cast you in a role that didn't fit yet, have I," he said with a self-confident grin. "Not that you couldn't pull off almost any role." He stared at the desk drawer that held the papers for a moment and tried to figure out just how many more papers he needed to have graded before tomorrow's class. "What are they putting on tonight?"

Re: It's a glorious thing, to be a pirate king
Mischa shrugged. "I have no idea. It's some new independent play. It may be worth checking out. I still say we should do Avenue Q." She grinned.

He shook his head, laughing. "We're not doing Avenue Q because I really don't want to get fired. Unless," he said, eyes glittering playfully, "you can somehow convince the headmistress to let us put on a musical with songs like 'The Internet is for Porn' or 'I'm Not Wearing Underwear Today'."

"And don't forget the classic, Everyone Is a Little Bit Racist." She grinned. "I don't understand why people refuse to see the timelessness of Avenue Q. What about A Very Potter Musical? Can we do that one? I want to play Draco."

"Maybe," he laughed. "I'll add it to the list. You think the student body might appreciate it more than our usual fare?"

Mischa looked over at him. "I think this school wouldn't know culture if you took it and beat them over the head with it. Though, I do have to say, I think the Age of Innocence would be a nice touch. Miss Hastings has her history class reading it right now."

"And if I were the diabolical sort," he said with a mischievious smile, "I'd be thinking about suggesting to her the idea of extra credit with the attendance of one of the performances. Not that I'm the diabolical sort," he clarified playfully. "I didn't know she had her classes reading it... Guess I should take it off of my list."

"It's only her AP classes that she has reading it." Mischa told him. "I think she's trying to make some kind of commentary about Upper East Side New York Society. Her regular history class isn't reading it though."

"Between you and I, I don't think her normal class would be able to understand it," he muttered. Realizing how bitter he sounded, he straightened and gave her a wide smile. "So what shall we do for the masses today? A quick vote on what people want to do for the Spring Production and then some improve or page readings?"

"Yeah. Trust me," Mischa said with a roll of her eyes, "I'm completely aware at just how dumb most of the student population is. I'm reminded every time I have to deal with one of those idiots. But that sounds like a good plan. I just hope they go for my Avenue Q."

He shook his head. "I don't know what it is with you and that show," he laughed. "But if it gets chosen, you're going to be the one to present it to the headmaster." The show was edgy enough that the students would love it but the upper levels of faculty would kill him. "At least when we did Cymbaline, we could hide behind Old English."

"And the entire student body was too stupid to get the jokes." She pouted. "At least with Avenue Q, they'll be able to appreciate all the jokes."
