Hmmmmmmm.....

Haley sat at her usual table in Starbucks drinking her hot chocolate as she worked on getting her reading done for English. 'Wuthering Heights' wasn't bad, but it was confusing and she kept loosing her focus. Haley sighed and began doodling on the notebook beside her.

"Wuthering Heights," Ben said as he noticed the book in the girls hand. "Not into it?" He asked as he stood in front of her with his coffee in hand.

Haley laughed and shook her head, "Not really. It's not my kind of thing, you know?" She smiled at him, "You're Ben Sanders, right?"

"Yes." He nodded. "How do you? Have we met before?" He asked.

Haley nodded, "I think so. I was on Constance's student council when you were Saint Jude's student body president. That, and I tutor your little sister in History when she decides to show up." She smiled and gestured to the vacant seat across from her, "Care to join me?"

"Oh, so you must be Haley then. "He laughed. "I thought I recognized you from somewhere." Ben said as he joined her at the table.

"I'm also known as 'The Other Archibald.'" She said with a grin, "How's Yale? I thought about applying there for early admissions."

"It's like a little piece of the upper east side in Connecticut." Ben laughed. "Actually, it's not that bad." He admitted. "You should I'm sure you'd get in."

Haley shrugged, "I'm not really sure where I want to go yet. I have a few schools in mind. What's your major?"

"Sports medicine." He answered with a grin. "This way I know how to avoid most injuries."

Haley laughed, "Do you still play Hockey? I used to go to some of the Saint Jude's games when I had the chance."

"Yeah, it's kind of hard with school and everything. But I still make time for it." He said. "So, what are you thinking of taking up in school? Any ideas yet?"

"I'm thinking either History or Political Science." Haley said then sipped her hot chocolate, "I want to go to law school and those are pretty much the base for any good admission to law school."

"I don't quit no matter how hard the obstacle is. I'm pretty stubborn." Haley said, "I guess I get it from my mom. She was pretty stubborn too."

Ben noticed that Haley spoke of her mother in past tense. "What happened to her?" He asked carefully.

"She died about two years ago. She had Leukemia. That's why I moved up here to live with Nate and his family." Haley told him.

"Pretty much. So what are you doing here, all alone after school on a friday?" He questioned and finished off his drink.

"Serena had a date, Nate had a date." Haley shrugged, "I got off of work about 30 minutes ago so I figured I'd stay here and catch up on some homework before heading home."
